We all loved the movie “Bullitt.” It had everything a movie should have, but most importantly it had a 1968 Ford Mustang GT that became a legend. Originally a car like that was selling for just $3,500, but at a recent auction at Mecum’s auction in Kissimmee, Fla the Mustang Bullitt was sold for the record amount of $3.4 million. Not bad at all for a car that was driven by Steve McQueen himself.
We all remember the chase scene that made the movie “Bullitt” famous. It is actually considered by experts being the first modern-day car chase scene, one that was executed with such innovation and finesse that it became the standard for all that followed. Longer, faster and more action-packed than anything before it, the 10-minute car chase scene—featuring McQueen as Lt. Frank Bullitt chasing a black Dodge Charger while behind the wheel of this 1968 Ford Mustang GT—was the first to use cameras in a way that put the audience right inside the cars and alongside the actors.
A scene like that is what increased the price of 1968 to millions. Can we hope for a remake of that chasing scene?
