Elon Musk’s Tesla Cybertruck Just Proved Gas and Diesel Are Better When it Comes to Towing

    2021 Tesla Cybertruck

The Tesla Cybertruck has made quite a presence on the internet thanks to its crazy appearance and the armored windows that didn’t hold up to the hype. But, you know what else didn’t hold up to the hype? The Cybertruck’s towing capacity. Oddly enough, nobody is really talking about this, but we were promised a Tesla pickup with a 300,000-pound towing capacity:

What we got instead was something with a tow rating that’s laughable, at best, for a model that’s supposed to compete with trucks like the Chevy Silverado, Ford F-150, and Ram 1500. In single motor, RWD configuration the Cybertruck will net you 250 miles, but it can only pull 7,500 pounds. The dual motor, AWD version ups those figures to 300 miles and 10,000 pounds, but that’s still nothing to write home about. The tri-motor model – the one that is, essentially, the performance model has a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds.

That’s the limit – 14,000 pounds. Of course, that truck can pull the 60-second sprint in 2.9 seconds and it will supposedly cover 500 miles or more on a single charge, but that’s a far cry from the promised 300,000-pound towing capacity. Unfortunately, it looks like the Tesla Cybertruck might be a cool novelty and something usable for light duty, but if you really have some serious hauling to do, Elon Musk just proved to us that gas and diesel are still better.
