Mercedes-Benz launched the new generation today, December 11, 2019. Based on the A-Class, the 2021 GLA has increased in sizes, so it offers more interior room for both passengers and their luggage. It also comes with improved technology and new engine lineup.
Most important changes were size-wise. The 2021 GLA is now 4.1 inches highers, but also 0.6 inches shorter. With the extra height, the GLA is now offering extra headroom and legroom. Cargo room was also increased from 14.9 cubic feet up to 15.4.
On the U.S. market customers will have only one engine option: the GLA250. It comes with a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter, turbocharged gasoline engine that delivers a total of 221 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque between 1,620 rpm and 4,000 rpm. This this extra power the GLA250 goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 8.6 seconds and up to a top speed of 130 mph.
For Europe there is only one version available too. It comes with a 1.33 liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
The engine is mated to an automated dual-clutch transmission and can be combined with the the permanent 4MATIC AWD system with fully variable torque distribution.
As an option Mercedes is also offering a Driver Assistance Package that includes:
- Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
- Active Steering Assist
- Active Speed Limit Assist with Traffic Sign Assist
- Evasive Steering Assist
- Active Lane Keeping Assist
- Active Brake Assist
- Pre-Safe PLUS
The new Mercedes GLA will go on sale in the summer of 2020. Prices will be announced closer to market launch.
