Volkswagen announced today the launch of the new Atlas Cross Sport – which is pretty much the Coupe version of the five-seater midsize SUV. The 2020 Atlas Cross Sport will be offered in eight trim levels: S, SE, SE w/Tech, SE w/Tech R-Line, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL Premium, and SEL Premium R-Line. Sales will begin in the spring of 2020.
When compared to the standard Atlas, the Cross Sport version is 2.8 inches shorter and is 2.3 inches lower. It also has an outstanding 111.8 cubic feet of passenger space, with 40.3 cu ft of luggage space behind the second-row seats and 77.8 cu ft with the second row folded.
Up front the Cross Sport looks a lot like its brother: an upscale three-bar chrome grille and a distinctive new light signature, plus an aggressive new front bumper and subtly sculpted hood. However, when viewed from the side you will notice that the Cross Sport has a more aggressive look, because of its steeply raked rear pillar and rear hatch.
The interior has been updated with a new steering wheel, with more intuitive controls, available stitching accents on the door inserts and seats, and new high-tech features, including available wireless mobile charging.
Under the hood Volkswagen will offer a choice of two engines. The first one is a V-6 engine with an output of 276 horsepower, while the second one gets a four-cylinder turbocharged that delivers a total of 235 horsepower. Both engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and are available with Volkswagen’s 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system.
