Two months after we’ve seen the 2020 GLB, Mercedes decided to spice things up a little by adding a new AMG version to the lineup. The new GLB 35 4MATIC wants to transform a compact luxury crossover into a sporty luxury crossover and to attract younger buyers. The car will be officially unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show and will be put on sale in early 2020.
Under the hood of the new GLB 35 4MATIC Mercedes placed a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 306 horsepower – or, a little over 80 horsepower over the most powerful GLB (224 horsepower). It goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds – down from 6.9 seconds in the GLB 250 4MATIC, while top speed goes from 236 km/h to 250 km/h.
When compared to a standard GLB, the new AMG 35 version will be very easy to recognize thanks to model-specific design features. For the first time in a 35-series model Mercedes is adding an AMG-specific radiator grille, there is also a front splitter, a prominent rear apron with two round, single tailpipe trim elements and an AMG roof spoiler. The car rides on 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in tantalum grey with a high-sheen finish and the AMG high-performance brake system with silver brake callipers and black AMG lettering at the front.
The interior is just as impressive: sport seats upholstered in black ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre with red double top-stitching and red seat belts, MBUX infotainment system and multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather. Even if we are talking about a compact car, Mercedes is offering the possibility to add third seat row – that can accommodate passengers up to a height of 1.68 meters in comfort.
