After we’ve seen the Ferrari F8 Tributo at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, it is now time to have our first look at its Spider version. The new Ferrari F8 Spider makes its world debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show and will be put on sale shortly after.
The 2020 F8 Spider was designed by Ferrari Styling Center and comes to replace the 488 Pista Spider. However, it comes with an improved look, better driving dynamics, a more powerful engine, while also being 20 kilos lighter than the 488 Spider.
Under the hood of the new F8 Spider you will find a 4.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 720 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of torque. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.9 seconds and can hit a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph).
The F8 Spider features of course the same design language as the F8 Tributo, but with a Retractable Hard Top (RHT) that takes just 14 seconds to deploy or retract and can be closed or opened while the car is on the move up to 45 km/h.
On the interior the F8 Spider will retain the usual driver-oriented cockpit, with its design inspired by the F1 cars. It also gets new sports seats, an optional 7” touchscreen passenger-side display and of course a combination of aluminum and carbon fiber.
When compared to the 488 Spider, Ferrari also worked on improving the aerodynamics of the new F8 Spider – and as a result its performance numbers. For that purpose the front radiators are now in a rearward-angled position – which improved cooling, but also shrinks the underbody surface area that can be used to generate downforce. The F8 Spider is also offered with Side Slip Control system, which improves drivers’ control on the limit for an even more engaging behind the wheel, has been further evolved.
When compared to the model it replaces, the new F8 Spider delivers an extra 50 horsepower and 7 pound-feet of toque, is a tenth of a second quicker on the sprint from 0 to 62 mph, while top speed has been increased from 203 mph to 211 mph.
