After launching the new generation X5 back in 2018, BMW today announced the launched of the new X5 M version. Just like all the other M models, the new X5 M comes in both standard and Competition versions. The new models will be presented for the first time at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show and will be put on sale in April 2020.
One of the biggest changes for the third generation X5 M was made under the hood, where the model borrowed the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine from the M5. This engine delivers a total of 591 horsepower (600 PS) and a peak torque of 554 pound-feet. If you opt for the Competition version the output will be raised to 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
With the extra power the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in now made in 3.9 seconds in the standard version and in 3.8 seconds in the BMW X5 M Competition. Top speed remains limited to 155 mph.
The two models will be distinguished from the standard X5 by the usual M elements: large air intakes, BMW kidney grille with double bars, M gills on the front side panels, roof/rear spoiler, rear apron with diffuser elements, exhaust system with two sets of twin tailpipes.
On the interior the X5 M will add raised seating position, M‑specific cockpit design, BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific readouts, M multifunction seats and BMW Individual fine-grain Merino full leather trim.
