It looks like the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show has been the auto show for concepts. Another one is coming from Mercedes-Benz is called Vision EQS and apparently is a preview for the next generation S-Class.
According to Mercedes the “Vision EQS creates a connection between rationality and emotion. It presents the thrilling design of future EQ models from Mercedes-Benz. Its “one bow” proportion and dramatic fluidity are stylistic heralds of a new generation of electric Mercedes-Benz vehicles.”
The EQS’ powertrain consist of an electric all-wheel drive with axle-variable torque distribution and a battery installed deep in the vehicle floor between the axles. This system delivers a total of 475 horsepower and 56o pound-feet of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of more than 124 mph. According to the initial details it should also ensure an electric range of up to 700 km.
As for its design, the “Vision EQS takes the Progressive Luxury design philosophy of the EQ models by Mercedes-Benz into a new dimension.” The headlamps include two holographic lens modules, integrated into the continuous 360-degree exterior lightbelt; the digital grille consisting of 188 individual LEDs as a world first, while another 229 illuminated, individual stars form the seamlessly integrated lightbelt at the rear.
On the interior, the entire dashboard blends with the body of the front trim section, while the cockpit envelops the occupants like the deck of a boat. As for the materials used, Mercedes went with a combination of high-quality DINAMICA microfibre in crystal white and a native figured maple trim made out of recycled PET bottles.
Of course is going to take a while until concepts like this will make it to production, but Mercedes has hopes. “In a sustainable future too, our customers will want a saloon that meets their wishes in terms of comfort, design and technology. The VISION EQS combines these in a concept for a fully-electric vehicle in the luxury class.”
