BMW came with a very interesting grille… err concept… at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is called Concept 4 and it is suppose to be a preview for the next generation 4 Series and i4 electric sedan. While in general we like the design of the Concept 4 we strongly hope that the grille won’t make it to production.
According to BMW the grille was inspired by classic cars like the BMW 328 and the BMW 3.0 CSi, but if you do a little search on Google you will notice that none of these car featured such an enormous, ugly grille.
The grille features horizontal trim elements with a faceted cut and intricate grating within the kidneys and air intakes, which is made up of an array of small “number 4s” joined together. Next to this grille the slim and focused twin headlights seem really really small and out of context.
But not the entire Concept 4 is ugly. If you look at it from the side you will notice it is one of the modern BMW ever. The stretched bonnet, long wheelbase, flowing roofline and short overhangs create a modern, elegant and dynamic coupe outline. The concept is painted in a cool Forbidden Red exterior paint and sits on 21-inch light-alloy wheels.
